Amy Tomlinson has served as Public Health Director of the Lake Cumberland District Health Department (LCDHD) since 2021, providing leadership for a ten-county public health district serving approximately 210,000 Kentuckians. In this role, she leads an organization of approximately 175 employees and works alongside 120 local board of health members, including a 30-member governing District Board of Health.

With more than 20 years of experience in public health, Amy has spent the majority of her career with LCDHD, where she has served in a variety of roles since joining the organization in 2004. Her experience includes health education, quality assurance, public health accreditation, emergency preparedness, and organizational leadership. Prior to joining LCDHD, Amy worked with the University of Kentucky’s Kentucky Injury Prevention Program as a Regional Injury Prevention Specialist. She earned her Master of Public Health degree from Western Kentucky University.

Amy approaches leadership through the lens of servant leadership, believing that effective leadership begins with serving others, investing in people, and creating an environment where individuals and teams can succeed. She values collaboration, trust, continuous improvement, and empowering others to use their strengths in service to their communities. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to strengthening public health systems while keeping the people—both those who deliver public health services and those they serve—at the center of the work.

Outside of work, Amy is married and the mother of two college-aged children. She enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time with her family.
