Preventative Screenings and Immunizations

Getting preventive care is one of the most important steps you can take to manage your health. That’s because when a condition is diagnosed early, it is usually easier to treat. And regular checkups can help you and your doctor identify lifestyle changes you can make to avoid certain conditions.

 

Health Check

Use the tabs below to see what preventive screenings are recommended for your age and gender. While this is not a comprehensive list, these screenings are among the most important. Also listed are needed immunizations. The primary benefit of immunizations are to prevent disease. Immunization is considered one of the greatest public health achievements of the 20th century, and experts agree that immunization is key to staying healthy.

Biological Female

Biological Female: 19 – 39

General Health

Discuss with your doctor or nurse a full checkup including weight and height. Also, ask your doctor or nurse about health topics such as:

  • Overweight and Obesity
  • Tobacco Use
  • Alcohol Use
  • Depression
  • Thyroid (TSH) Testing
  • Skin and Mole Exam
  • Lung Cancer
  • Screening Viral
  • Hepatitis
  • Abdominal Aortic
  • Aneurysm

 

Heart Health

  • Blood Pressure Test – At least every two years.
  • Cholesterol Test – Start at age 20. Discuss with your doctor or nurse.


HIV

  • HIV Test – At least once to find out your HIV status. Ask your doctor or nurse if and when you need to test again.

 

Diabetes

  • Blood Glucose or A1C Test – Discuss with your doctor or nurse.


Breast Health

  • Clinical Breast Exam – Discuss with your doctor or nurse.


Reproductive Health

  • Pap Test – Every 2 years starting at age 21. Women 30 and older, every three years.
  • Pelvic Exam – Yearly beginning at age 21. Younger than 21 and sexually active. Discuss with your doctor or nurse.
  • Chlamydia Test – Yearly until age 24 if sexually active. Age 25 and older, get this test if you have new or multiple partners.
  • Sexually Transmitted Infections – If you are sexually active, discuss with your doctor or nurse.

 

Eye and Ear Health

  • Comprehensive Eye Exam – Discuss with your doctor or nurse.
  • Hearing Screening – Every 10 years.


Oral Health

  • Dental and Oral Cancer Exam –Routinely, discuss with your dentist.

 

Recommended Immunizations

  • Influenza Vaccine – Every fall or winter.
  • Pneumococcal Vaccine – If you smoke or have a chronic health problem, ask your doctor or nurse if you need this vaccine.
  • Tetanus Diphtheria, Pertussis (Td, Tdap) Vaccine – Get a Td booster every 10 years. Ask if you need 1 dose of Tdap instead of Td booster to prevent whooping cough.
  • Hepatitis B Vaccine – Discuss with your doctor or nurse.
  • Hepatitis A Vaccine – Discuss with your doctor or nurse.
  • Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine – You need this vaccine if you are 26 years old or younger and have not already completed the vaccine series.
Biological Female Ages 40-49

General Health
