Potentially contaminated products include various ready-to-eat and/or shelf stable food items including infant nutritional cereals, baking ingredients, and other food products imported and distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors Inc. doing business as (dba) East Africa Boutique LLC. Products may or may not include a label with the firm name.
A list of products is below. FDA is working with Pan-African Food Distributors, who have agreed to recall. The list of products will be updated as more information becomes available.
Health risks:
Products held under insanitary conditions and contaminated with filth could pose a serious health risk, potentially leading to various illnesses, including leptospirosis, hantavirus infection, salmonellosis, yersiniosis, E.coli infection, and rat-bite fever. People should contact their healthcare provider if they suspect they have developed symptoms as a result of eating these products.
Stores affected:
FDA is working with Pan- African Food Distributors, who has agreed to recall. The list of products will be updated as more information becomes available. FDA is aware that potentially contaminated product is available at retail locations. FDA is working to determine where potentially contaminated product was distributed. If you are a retailer that has purchased products from Pan-African Food Distributors dba East Africa Boutique, do not sell or distribute these products. This alert will be updated as more information becomes available.
Recommendation:
- Consumers should check their homes for the products distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors and discard all products. If you do not know if your product was distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors, throw it away. Additionally, consumers should carefully clean and sanitize surfaces that could have come in contact with potentially contaminated products.
- Parents and caregivers should not feed children products distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors.
- Retailers and distributors that purchased or received products from Pan-African Distributors should not sell or serve potentially contaminated products and should clean and sanitize any surfaces or containers that could have come in contact with potentially contaminated products.
- Distributors that further distributed potentially contaminated products should notify their customers about this public health safety alert.
- Consumers should contact their healthcare provider if they suspect they have developed symptoms as a result of eating these products.
