Did you know that every year an estimated 30,000-40,000 U.S. residents are potentially exposed to rabies and require human rabies post-exposure prophylaxis? In the past few years there have been over 50 animals that have tested positive for rabies in Kentucky. Rabies threatens all members of the family, including pets. When left untreated, rabies is almost always fatal. However, it is 100% preventable. This is why we must take the appropriate steps to prevent and control rabies in our communities.

Rabies Clinics

Although the majority of cases of rabies occur in the wildlife population, most humans are exposed to the virus as a result of an encounter with an infected domestic animal. Keeping pets, including cats, dogs, and ferrets up-to-date on rabies vaccinations is the primary means of helping to prevent rabies in humans and domestic animals. Rabies shots are good for one year. Other vaccines may be available at discounted prices.

State law required that all dogs, cats, and ferrets over four months of age be vaccinated. The Lake Cumberland District Health Department along with its veterinary partners sponsors rabies clinics in the following counties:

ADAIR

  • On Thursday, June 28th the following locations will provide rabies vaccinations at $5.00 per animal. All animals must be on a leash or in a carrier. No animal under 3 months of age.
