PACE® (People with Arthritis Can Exercise) is an exercise program designed specifically for people with arthritis that uses gentle activities to help increase joint flexibility and range of motion and to help maintain muscle strength. It also helps increase overall stamina.
Exercise is an important component in the comprehensive health care management program of an individual with arthritis. Proper exercise promotes optimum joint flexibility, muscle strength, endurance, coordination, and cardiovascular conditioning. Enhanced self image and self-esteem may also result. All of the exercises were designed to be within the capability of most people with arthritis. Participants may have to contact their physicians before starting to find out if any special precautions are necessary if they have had joint surgery or osteoporosis.
