The Pulaski County Women’s Cancer Coalition encourages participation in the Kentucky Cancer Screening Programs offered through the Pulaski County Health Department. The coalition members include community organizations, cancer survivors and other interested individuals. The coalition is involved in several activities through the year to promote cancer screenings and awareness among all women. Last year, we participated in 2 health expo’s, sent 1000s Thanksgiving and Mother’s day cards to mothers, grandmothers, and guardians through elementary school children, distributed 1000’s of inserts for church bulletins reminding of the importance of mammograms, raised money for the Relay for Life, partnered with God’s Food Pantry to distribute information to seniors and those of poor economic status, and placed radio and newspaper announcements in local media resources. The coalition has grown from 3 members to seven members and is getting more involved in the community. Currently, we are promoting education about Gardasil, the cervical cancer vaccine for young women.
